Frequently asked questions
What is the measurement accuracy with the different piezoelectric transducers?
The measurement accuracy is dependent on each application and is influenced by several factors, e.g. bolt coefficient of use (% of yield strength), ratio of bolt diameter:length, etc. The load deviation during calibration is typically 1-5%.
Does the bolt material play a role in the ultrasonic signal quality?
Some special high strength/hardness materials, e.g. some stainless steels can influence the echo quality in a negative way. In such cases, the echo propagation should be investigated to check the ultrasonic compatibility of the bolt material.
Can I reuse the transducer-mounted bolts more than once?
If the bolts were tightened within the elastic range, there is no limitation to reuse the bolts. As the intellifast technology allows you to measure the preload independently of the friction coefficient, wear in the bolt coating does not influence the measurement.
How clamping length variations influence the measured preload?
As the calibration is valid for a specific clamping length, any variations of the clamping length for the foreseen application could have an impact on the final measurement. As a rule of thumb, 1% clamping length variation results in approx. 0.5% measurement error.
What can I do to protect the transducer?
If humidity protection is required, it is recommended to apply e.g. a water repellent medium on the entire transducer surface, that can be easily removed with organic solvent. Please previously check the environmental conditions with intellifast.
How should the hardware devices be handled?
Generally, the measurement units should be operated in a 5-40°C temperature range and exposed to relative humidity ranging 20-80%. Handling with care is generally recommended. Do not scratch the touchscreen or drop the device. Intellifast is not responsible for outer/inner damage due to inappropriate use of the device. Cleaning should only be done using soft tissues.
